All Bear Woods Dowel Rods are kiln dried, clear, smooth, straight and accurately sized. Our five eighths inch by forty eight inch doweling is made from high quality wood, and is Imported. Our Birch Dowel Rods are made with a high quality and milling standard.

2) Mix and Match "Box" quantities of any of our Maple, Oak, Cherry, Walnut, Hickory, Ash, Mahogany, Poplar or Teak wood dowel rods to obtain our best quantity price per box.
For Example: If you buy 1 box (any size) of say Maple, 1 box of Oak and 1 box of Cherry dowels for a total of 3 boxes you will get the lower 3 box price for each box ordered.
3) Our specialty dowels are made to order. Allow a lead time of 1 - 4 weeks. We accept returns of this non-stock item for defects in workmanship only. For faster shipping, contact us and we will see what we can do.
4) For longer length dowels, check out our Poplar Dowels for five to twelve foot long dowels with one eighth to two inch diameters.

Great quality dowels.
Definitely Birch, based on my woodworking experience.
Of the 100 (ordered & received), all were acceptable based on the advertised specifications.
I'm using these as handles for insect collecting nets & needed a minimum of 50 @ 4' long that passed my straightness test = when laid on a flat surface & pressed down & rolled at one end, the other end should not raise by > 1/4" from the reference surface. 63 passed this test. Of the rest, 23 barely failed, and will be perfect for slightly shorter handles. Almost all of these did not show a consistent bowing, but rather a sort of kink usually within 1' from an end. Wood is wood & such things are to be expected.
The remaining 14 had minor, but solid, knots or irregular/diagonal grain in spots that suggested weak spots to me. Again, these will be perfectly usable for shorter handles & wood is wood & such things are to be expected.
All of the dowels seem to have been made from very straight 1/4 sawn wood such that the growth rings are quite parallel to the dowel cross section & quite perpendicular to the long dowel axis. Just what is wanted for handles/strength. COOL!
Likely all I received would be just fine for bug net handles, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

Only criticism - all the dowels measure consistently at ~0.635" (+/- ~0.008") ie, a bit bigger than 5/8". Far better than being a bit small. Does mean extra hand fettling on my part to get things to fit properly though. Likely not an issue for most folks.
Shipping took ~1 week from online order placement to delivery at my door. No extra courrier/customs/brokerage charges.
