The University of Toledo - Paul A. Hotmer Maker Space
Joshuah (seen in the photo above) is the lead developer of the University of Toledo's Maker Space.
"The Maker Space at the University of Toledo is a collaborative environment dedicated to fostering creativity, hands-on learning, and skill development among students and the broader community. This initiative aims to provide access to various tools and resources, allowing individuals to explore woodworking, CNC machining, laser cutting and engraving, 3D printing and fabrication, soldering, design, and other craft-oriented projects. The space is designed to be more than just a workshop; it serves as a bridge for students, aspiring makers, and hobbyists to connect with the Maker community, share knowledge, and develop new skills that can be applied in both professional and personal endeavors.
The vision behind creating the Maker Space is to offer an inclusive area where anyone can learn, innovate, and create. By providing access to professional-grade tools and materials, the space encourages students to engage in projects that go beyond traditional academic boundaries, blending art, engineering, and practical skills. The project was made possible in part through a generous donation from Paul A. Hotmer, a retiree of Owens-Illinois who spent much of his career at the Tech Center and is also an alumnus and great friend of the College of Engineering. His support has been crucial in helping us build a supportive environment where participants can work on personal projects, collaborate on group initiatives, and engage in community-driven activities. Ultimately, our goal is to make the Maker Space a hub for creativity and learning, where everyone feels welcome to explore their potential and develop meaningful skills.
We look forward to expanding the Maker Space further, continuously adding new tools, hosting workshops, and offering events that bring together the university and the local community. With ongoing support, we aim to create a lasting impact, inspiring the next generation of makers, engineers, business owners, artists, and craft enthusiasts."
