My clock face in the grandfather clock was kind of thin, so I added a panel and went with the clock drive with the longer drive. It came without instructions and I could not get the time right. One email to Bear Woods and the problem was solved! To be honest, I’m still not entirely sure how I managed to get the time and hands synchronized, mostly blind luck, but without the instructions I would have been very frustrated. My wife wasn’t too keen at first about having such a large timepiece added to our living room, but after hearing the chimes for the first time she became a convert (she’s originally from the UK), and when I lowered the volume too much was asked to raise it back up some! The various chimes are nice, and we settled on the ones that chime only on the hour and selected night time off. Overall we are very happy with the results, and with Bear Woods prompt response, we’re talking a matter of a few hours- great customer service indeed! We left the pendulum drive in it’s locked position, as the design of the face and ‘weights’ required a separate drive for the pendulum, which means the two C cell batteries should last for years, giving me plenty of time to psyche myself up to replace and reset the hands and time! Better print those instructions out and keep them inside near the clock drive! I have no qualms about recommending Bear Woods as a supplier of very high quality clock drives, hands, and probably most importantly of all, great service.
Product arrived as advertised. Great sound which was my ultimate concern. Keeps perfect time, as expected. However, there’s no way I can get the pendulum to work, even with the directions provided by tech services. Also, the night time silencer does not work. There are no instructions for the correct setting procedures, so that was a bit of a challenge. I was charged for the hands & pendulum which was supposed to be free of charge. Overall, a good product but a bit disappointing considering the problems described above.
I wasn’t sure at first if I wanted a second hand on my grandfather clock, but I’m glad I went with one, as it fully compliments the other hands, and really adds something to the looks of the clock face. It installed easily and I am very happy with the results!
**When repairing a clock we always recommend new hands as your old ones may not fit.
